Northridge Youth Athletic Association

WRESTLING

The NYAA Youth Wrestling Team competed in the Licking County League Youth Wrestling League Tournament on Sunday, February 14th at Lakewood HS.  They defeated Licking Heights in the Semi-Final round by a score of 62-30, to remain undefeated on the season, earning a finals match against undefeated Watkins Memorial later in the day.

Watkins advanced to the finals by beating Licking Valley 64-30 to set up a rematch of last years finals match, which was won by the Vikings.  The small 32 member NYAA team had its hands full early, dropping five of the first six matches to the 90 member Watkins team, going down by an early score 0f 26-3.

Northridge finally got on track through the middle weights, winning 10 of the last 12 matches to post a 54-35 victory to claim its 5th straight league title with a five year combined record of 29-0.

Northridge will wrap up its season in mid March at the Grade School State wrestling tournament in Marion, where we have qualified 11 wrestlers for the state meet.  Last year Northridge placed 3 wrestlers at the state meet with Mason Royer placing 3rd, Hunter Verhovec placing 4th, and Jacob Maynard placing 6th.  All three wrestlers are back looking to better their position as well as most of last years state qualifiers.

We are looking forward to a great post season!!  Congratulations Vikings and good luck!!

-Seamus Mulligan, Wrestling Commissioner

========================================================

I would like to congratulate the entire NYAA Wrestling Team on this great endeavor and accomplishment.  It is hard to defend a title back-to-back, let alone for FIVE years running!

I would also like to thank the coaches and the people that volunteer their time and the parents for making it happen.  Without you, our kids would not be the dominate team that they are!

Lastly, I would like to say good luck to all 11 in the state tournament! For those that did not qualify, I want you to know that you are just as important to the team and without you, we could not have accomplished so much.

Way To Go Vikings!!!

-Doug Carter, NYAA President
